The short version
Candle Chapel has no accounts and no place to type anything, so we never learn your name, email or anything else about who you are. We count visits with Google Analytics (see below), except in Europe, where it is not used at all. There are no advertising cookies, advertising signals are off, and nothing is sold or shared for marketing.
While you are in a room
To show you to the people around you, the server holds your position, the action you are doing, your look and a random name such as “Quiet Sparrow”. This lives only in memory while you are connected and is gone when you leave. The candle stand also keeps the time the last candle was lit, for a few seconds’ rest.
When you light a candle
Lighting a candle saves a small anonymous record so everyone can see how many candles were lit in the last 24 hours. The record holds a random id that our database provider, Google Firebase, creates for your browser, which room it was lit in, and the time — no name, no email, nothing you type. Each browser leaves at most one record every ten minutes, and records are deleted about two days after they are made. Firebase deletes the random id itself after 30 days.
In your own browser
Your rosary count, your sound settings and the random Firebase id are saved in your browser’s own storage, on your device only. Clearing your browser data removes them.
Hosting and visit counts
Candle Chapel runs on Cloudflare, and candle records are kept by Google Firebase. Like any website, Cloudflare processes your IP address to deliver the page and to pick the nearest room region (Americas, Europe or Asia-Pacific), and keeps short technical logs. To see how many people visit and what they use, we use Google Analytics. It sets a first-party cookie (_ga) to count visits and to tell new visitors from returning ones. It sees which pages you open, where you came from (for example a search engine or a link), your rough location (country and city, estimated from your IP address, which Google does not store), your device and browser type, and which buttons you press in the room (light a candle, sit, kneel, settings and so on). It never gets your name, your room link or anything you type, because there is nothing to type. Google signals and ad personalization are off, and nothing is used for advertising. Google processes this data for us and may do so outside your country, including in the United States; the statistics are kept for at most 14 months. If your device is set to a European time zone, Google Analytics is not loaded at all.
Error reports
If the page breaks in your browser, it sends a short technical message (the error text, the page address without your room link, and your browser and graphics chip type) so we can fix it. It contains nothing about you.
Children
Candle Chapel has no chat and never asks who you are, so it is safe for any age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.
